If you have not been convicted abortion is a sin, this article will not make much sense to you. However, if you have been convicted and are seeking forgiveness or know someone to whom you can minister then keep reading.
The reason you believe abortion is a sin is that you understand a fetus is an eternal soul that matters to God. And, as such, aborting an unborn baby equals to killing a human who is already born. Then I will argue that no extra “forgiveness coverage” is needed for your redemption from abortions. The sacrifice of the Cross is enough. God does not hate murder proportionately to the age of the victim. The same power the blood of Jesus has to cover the sin of killing an adult human washes the sin of killing an unborn human. The location of the victim (inside or outside their mother’s womb) does not make a difference.
Murder is no more and no less than murder whether the perpetrators are related to the victims or not. God does not hate the sin proportionally to how closely related they are. Let us take the example of extremists who killed their teens or young adult children because they (the children) have chosen Christianity or their daughters who “brought shame to the family”. Would God not forgive these parents if they repent? You have to take God at His words: For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit. 1 Peter 3:18 (NIV) He suffered ONCE for SINS (all of them)!
Do you believe God would forgive a mass shooter or a serial killer if they repent? Think of the most despicable crime (molestation, rape…) Do you believe God would forgive the perpetrator if they repent just as He said in Isaiah 43:25 “I, I am he who blots out your transgressions for my own sake, and I will not remember your sins” (ESV) and countless other verses? Seriously, just google “verses about God forgetting our sins” or any similar phrase and you will be overwhelmed by such reassuring verses. So why would He not forgive YOU?
The accuser might be reminding you that you were in church when you made that decision and should have known better. Peter was one of the closest disciples to Jesus. He was in the Lord’s inner circle alongside Peter and John. Only these three went up the Mount of Transfiguration, were brought into the Garden of Gethsemane “a little further” and witnessed the resurrection of the little girl (Mark 5:21-43). Yet, Peter, fearing for his life, denied Jesus. Three times by the way, in case the Devil is reminding you you had more than one abortions. This is simply what sin is denying Jesus to “save” ourselves. Abortion is a way to “save” ourselves from financial hardships, abandoning our career, the judgement and abandonment of our parents… The fact that you were in church does not make your sins harder for God to forgive. Stop walking around beaten down and doing unnecessary penance for a sin God has already blotted out.
Often times, women who have had abortions are worried about what happened to the baby’s soul. Well, you believe abortion is wrong because you know life starts at conception (or at least way earlier than the pro-choice movement wants to admit). Therefore, this unborn child is a person and as such, the promises of the Bible apply to him or her as well. Then consider Psalm 27:10: Though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me. Your child is basking in the glory of the Lord. (NIV) Laurie Ditto maintains the brightest “lights” in Heaven- after Jesus- are miscarried children. Then the second brightest are aborted children who are bumped up to miscarried children if one of their parents repents. How could it be any different with such a loving Heavenly Father? And, since they are in Heaven, aborted children are not harboring any anger or unforgiveness towards their parents. They simply cannot. How wonderful would it be to finally meet your children when you join them in Heaven?
I pray the Holy Spirit has opened your heart to receive this Truth: YOU ARE FORGIVEN! Now walk in this forgiveness:
1. Seek healing.
Yes, there is such thing as post-abortion trauma. And, there is help. Living in His Forgiveness (Bridge Women Center) and numerous other ministries are ready and equipped to help you free of charge. You can also reach out to a Christian counselor. This is often covered by health insurances.
2. Speak to the baby’s other parent.
There might be resentment that was never fully addressed between the two of you. He or she might also be seeking forgiveness.
3. Let God use you
If the Holy Spirit so leads you, do not be afraid to share your testimony and in doing so pull others out of darkness and the dominion of Satan.
