" A TIME FOR EVERYTHING" is available now!

Spiritual Life VS Social Life

4 years ago I published this blog’s first article How to make time for Our Father… and then, nothing. It was the first and last one I published. I even found a draft to a second article I was working on but never got around to finish. What happened? How could I have dropped the ball? For 4 years?

Yes, a lot happened in my life: a second baby, switching job (2 times), graduating from college, buying a new home and moving out-of-state. But did I really not have a few hours a week to keep up with this project? This got me thinking: what other activities I have been putting off? What other areas of my life have been starved? The first answer that popped in my mind was my spiritual life. But as I dug deeper I realized my social life is the most neglected and it is affecting ALL other areas including my spiritual life. Hear me out!

As humans, we were never meant to walk alone. I once heard a pastor say when God said it is not good for Adam to be alone, He did not only mean the man needs a wife. God meant companionship. This is needed in all spheres of one’s life including spiritual life.

We do not have to be a loner to be closer to God or to reach some sort of spiritual high ground. It is a lie of the enemy! Don’t get me wrong: often times one might need to spend time alone with God. This could even be for an extended period of time. But this cannot be a way of living. We need to be encouraged, held accountable and challenged in order to reach our potential. And a close-knit community of like-minded individuals is there to do just that.

So:

  1. Don’t abandon your assembly and most importantly get involved in ministries
  2. Make friends especially people who share your faith and can be a support to your spiritual life and vice versa
  3. Nurture these relationships
  4. Go out! Be social! Reach out to people! Do whatever people do to build social networks. I am not an authority on the subject as you may have already suspected. And thanks to technology, this is still possible even if we are practicing social distancing due to the Coronavirus.

As of me, I am going to dive into the Christian blogging community. I am sure they are many meaningful connections awaiting. And I am positive my next post will not be in 4 years.
